Sharp Plasmacluster Air Purifiers proven to improve indoor air quality by TERI

Sharp Plasmacluster Air Purifiers proven to improve indoor air quality by TERI

Its ingenious air-purification technology validated to reduce airway inflammation in asthmatic patients

Sharp, the Indian market leader in innovative air purification devices, today announced that its air purifiers with inbuilt patented plasmacluster Ion technology has been validated for its efficacy by TERI and further can get Indian citizens the required relief from rising after effects of Air Pollution. The effectiveness of Sharp’s Air Purifiers has already been validated by 28 labs globallynow along with TERI. The company has been making efforts to deliver results which can not only prove the efficiency of its patented technology but can deliver results which can further be measured in Quantitative terms.

In a recent study conducted by TERI to see the impact of Air Purifiers in improving indoor air quality with special focus on particulate matter (PM) and gaseous substances, it has been found that Sharp’s advanced Plasmacluster technologyemits ions that destroy the chemical pollutants and neutralize harmful VOC and other toxic gases, thus purifying the air people breathe indoors.

Sharp’s advanced Plasmacluster Ion technology works by generating Positive and Negative Ions by breaking water vapour in the atmosphere which through the fan mechanism is pushed out of the Purifier and spreads in the room. These Ions then react with the pathogens to create Water vapour which combines with the indoor atmosphere.

To assess the effectiveness of Sharp’s Air Purifiers, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) installed these air purifiers in three different types of locations in two major tropical cities in India, namely Bangalore and Delhi during the period Feb-Mar 2017 for continued monitoring & indoor air quality assessments.

Indoor air quality monitoring was performed in real world conditions and for the following parameters at all the selected locations with and without air purifier:-

· Respirable suspended particulate matter less than 10 μm (RSPM/PM10)

· Fine particulate matter less than 2.5 μm (PM 2.5)

· Fine particulate less than 1μm (PM 1)

· CO (Carbon monoxide)

· CO2 (Carbon dioxide)

· Ammonia (NH3)

· Nitrogen dioxide (NO2)

· Formaldehyde (HCHO)

GRIMM Aerosol Spectrometer was used for the measurement of PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 indoors. CO, CO2, Temperature and Relative Humidity (RH) were measured simultaneously using a portable Q-track monitor. For gaseous pollutants like NH3, NO2 and HCHO, air is allowed to bubble through a suitable absorbing solution using a handy sampler which was further analysed by wet chemical methods.
The procedures followed were strictly in accordance with the guidelines laid down by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Sharp Air Purifier model FP-F40E was used in this study for impact evaluation. Indoor Air quality monitoring was carried for continuous 8 hours at each of the locations and after installation of air purifiers, monitoring was carried out for five time periods- 15 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins, 60 mins and 90 mins.
On analysing the data which was collected from same building type of both the locations, it was evident that the levels of PM10, PM2.5 & PM1 at all the locations throughout the study period was found to be following a decreasing trend as time elapses. This clearly indicates that irrespective of the building type, the performance of the air purifiers improves with time. The maximum reduction in all cases was observed when the air purifier runs for 90 mins. At most of the points, there was a continuous reduction in CO, CO2 (23-35%), NO2 (18%), HCHO (33%) with the use of air purifier.

Commenting on the study Mr.ShuvenduMazumdar, National Manager, Air Purifier Business, Sharp Business Systems India Pvt. Ltd. said “Although there are several technologies which are being used for air purification like HEPA, Activated Carbon, UV, Negative Ion, Ozonebut the time required in purification is counterproductive in some and the microbes that survive due to limited time of purification can become even more dangerous.”“Plasmacluster is Sharp's original air disinfecting technology which is successful in suppressing the effects of airborne viruses, mould, allergens, dust mites, bacteria and removing odour to a large extent that traditional filters cannot”, he added.

The above study confirmed drastic reduction in particulate matter levels (irrespective of size range) especially in finer particulates responsible for serious respiratory illness. Designed as an effective solution for the alarming pollution levels in the country, Sharp Air Purifiers now with a proven study can help to reduce airway inflammation among people with asthma and allergy thus making it a natural method of prevention from respiratory illnesses.

Corning Works with Micromax to Deliver Corning® Gorilla® Glass on New Vdeo Series of Smartphones

India’s leading device manufacturer brings Gorilla Glass to value-segment devices

CORNING, Mumbai. — Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced that it has collaborated with Micromax for its Vdeo smartphones, designed for the “value-segment” consumer. The recently launched devices are among the first across India’s mobile phone entry segment to incorporate Corning® Gorilla® Glass to help protect against damage.

“Value-segment smartphone customers typically spend a significant portion of their income buying a device,” said John Bayne, vice president and general manager, Corning Gorilla Glass. “Many of these first-time smartphone users simply cannot afford to repair or to replace a damaged device. That’s why it’s essential to protect these devices with a material such as tough, damage-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.”

A recent consumer poll* conducted in India, which is the second largest smartphone market in the world, highlights the needs of India’s critical value-segment smartphone category predominantly serviced by devices ranging in price from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 ($75 to $150).

The study focuses on the participants’ expectations and performance of devices they currently own. Highlights of the study results include:

  • Approximately 58% said that their smartphone is the most expensive thing that they carry with them daily, and their single biggest worry is damaging their device. Also, 68% of respondents said they worry about dropping and breaking their screen.

  • Over 65% of value-segment smartphones are reported to have significant screen damage with more scratches per device than consumers in other segments.

  • When they do replace their smartphones, the majority (52%) said that they plan to spend almost the same amount on a new device as their current one, but expect it to have better functions and capabilities.

Bayne added, “For all mobile phone consumers, their device is critical. It is often the most valuable thing they carry on their person every day and something they use not just to communicate but, in many cases, as their primary access to information. We are thrilled that Micromax – one of India’s premier device manufacturers – has designed Gorilla Glass into its Vdeo smartphones to give value-segment users the protection that they not only need, but they deserve. This level of performance is not possible with other material options.”

“It is important for the entire ecosystem to come together to deliver a compelling and complete solution to consumer needs. With the Micromax Vdeo range we have broken the perception that a durable, high-quality display is limited to premium devices,” said Shubhajit Sen, chief marketing officer, Micromax. “We believe our continued collaboration with Corning will help propel adoption of smart phones with consumers in the value segment."

The Vdeo range of smartphones are designed keeping in mind the basic needs that Indian consumers demand from their smartphones and are fully loaded with best-in-class features for an entry level Smartphone – including 4G VoLTE, Android Marshmallow, great battery performance, HD display and housed in a premium and stylish metal body.
